WHY USE A BABY SLEEP AND ROUTINE CONSULTANT?

There is so much information about sleep and routines from the Internet, books, midwives, local childhood clinic and well-meaning friends and relatives. It seems everyone has different and conflicting opinions. We now live in the technology age where we have a limitless resource of information literally at our fingertips, and as parents we spend hours trawling through site efter site trying to find answers. It’s no wonder parents are overwhelmed and confused and wondering whether their baby (and themselves) will ever get a decent night’s sleep again. Do any of these sound familiar? Go through the following checklist:

  • You are having problems getting your baby / toddler into a consistent routine
  • Your baby / toddler is up for hours at a time through the night and / or day
  • You are unable to put your baby into their cot to sleep
  • Your baby / toddler only sleeps for 30 to 45 minutes at a time during the day
  • You are exhausted and at the end of your tether because of your baby’s lack of sleep
  • You do any or all of the following as a means of trying to get your baby to sleep (not by choice, but out of desperation):

– Rock your baby to sleep in your arms before transferring to cot or bassinet
– Hold your baby on your chest for long periods of time whilst they sleep
– Rock your baby’s cot or bassinet until they fall asleep, even if this takes hours
– Take your baby / toddler into bed with you
– Put your baby / toddler into the car and drive around aimlessly until they fall asleep
– Breast or bottle feed constantly around the clock day and night in an effort to try and get your baby / toddler to sleep

Often parents are aware that certain practices or rituals they are doing with their baby / toddler are contributing to the overall sleep issues, but when you are caught in that cycle you simply cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel. What you are needing is to understand exactly what the problem areas are, how and why they need to be addressed and then be given a clear and consistent plan and strategy how to resolve the situation. It’s all about breaking the current cycle and re-setting a whole new cycle which will mean your baby is finally getting the sleep he / she needs to be getting day and night, and what a world of difference that makes.
